Canvey went into their first home game of the season with what is normally a very tricky tie against Heybridge.

Manager Micky Bright made a few changes from the side that beat Baldock at the weekend, draughting in Ben Rees in goal for Bradley King, Ian Wastell for Danny Short & Mark Quarrell for Nathan Collins , the latter two because of involvement for the youth team the previous night.

The first half started slowly with a couple of half chances for both sides Liam Bright going closest for Canvey with both efforts after 6 & 18 Minutes. Heybridge went close with a header after 35 mins that just went wide. The opposition were starting to get worried at the runs of Mark Quarrell down the left and they had every right to be as 42 mins struck. Quarrell picking the ball up inside his half and with midfielders trailing behind he ghosted past 4 defenders before slotting home in the far corner.

Following a roasting at half time from the management Canvey looked to vastly improve in the second half & after 58 mins it was 2-0. With the ball running loose from over 30yds out Liam Bright crashed in a glorious effort which sailed over the bewildered keeper who was only a couple of yards off his line. 4 minutes later Chris Elms should have added to the tally but his lobbed effort fell the wrong side of the post. An amazing incident occured after 75 mins when Paul Whipps ran clear only to be brought down outside the box by the keeper, bizarrely the referee waved play on saying later that he thought the keeper had taken the ball.

The next 5 mins saw all 3 substitutes used Crease on for Wastell, Purser on for Elms & Rugg on for Elsworth. With only 7 mins remaining Canvey scored again following a well worked free kick, after receiving the ball Paul Whipps lifted a lovely pass to the farpost where Liam Bright rose at the far post to head over the stranded keeper for his 3rd goal of the season.

With results on the night going Canvey's way this win put them top of the table with maximum points.

Team:   Rees, Hall, Elsworth (Rugg), Whipps, King, Lee, Wastell (Crease), Hayford, Elms (Purser), Bright, Quarrell.
