Recent signing from Brighton where he was player of the year.
Strong, quick skillful player who is equally at home in midfield or
defence. He has also played for Wimbledon. |
Jeff
Brazier (Pin-up)
Promising 20-year old defender signed in 1998 during the close season.
Previously with Leyton Orient, Jeff has progressed well since earning a
place in the first team.

Garry
Britnell (Britts)
Vastly experienced 35-year old defender or midfield player who began
with Canvey Island in the Essex Senior League before spells with
Chelmsford City and Dartford. He then enjoyed a successful period
with Enfield before re-joining Canvey in 1994. Has been a 'stalwart' of
the Gulls whose contribution this season has helped the club move up
through the league.

Craig
Davidson(Crow)
25 year old defender who was another signing from Billericay, for whom he was an
ever present player in league games last season. He is a solid left back who
loves to go forward. Previous clubs include Southend, Chelmsford City and
Dagenham & Redbridge.
Paul
King
An 18 year old new comer to the Canvey squad. No
relation to manager Jeff. As a local lad from Stanford-le-Hope, he is a
name to watch for the future. |

Peter Smith
Canvey have signed the Woking defender Peter
Smith in a two year deal. Peter last played at Canvey during the 1st round
FA Cup clash on 13th November 1995 for Brighton. We welcome him to the
squad.

Steve
Ward (The Ginger Sex God)
27-year old central defender who spent many year with Essex neighbours and
rivals, Grays Athletic, progressing from the youth and reserve teams to
make over 400 appearances for the first team. Steve transferred to Canvey
Island in October 1996 for a £3000 fee. He is currently a P.E. teacher in
Gravesend.

Kerslake
Experienced defender signed in November 1999 from Swindon. he has
played for Leeds, QPR, Ipswich, Wycombe Wanderers
(loan), Tottenham & Swindon in his career, which began in 1984 at QPR.
he is a defender, and was born in Stepney, 19 June 1966. Height: 5'9''

Stimson
Stylish and polished midfielder who was signed during the close
season. A previous captain of Southend United, he has also had experience
with Newcastle, and Spurs.

Cooper
Signed from Billericay in December 1999.
Steve
Tilson (Tilly)
Highly experienced and respected 33-year old player in his second season
with Canvey Island. Steve previously spent no less than nine seasons
with Southend United where he made 239 Football League appearances,
scoring 26 goals. He had a brief spell on loan to Brentford before
joining Canvey. Steve is team captain and is a very influential and
important member of the squad. in 1998/9 he scored 34 league and cup
goals, and was voted player of the season by both players and
supporters.

Paul Williams (Willo)
32-year old attacking midfielder signed last season from Southend
United. Paul has enjoyed a lengthy Football League career, having joined
Charlton Athletic from Southern League Woodford Town. He then played for
Sheffield Wednesday, Crystal Palace and Southend United, as well as a
handful of clubs on loan, making around 300 Football League appearances
in all. He played for Wednesday against Arsenal in both an FA Cup and
League Cup final.

Duffy
Club record summer signing from Conference club Northwich Victoria. A tall,
athletic and skilful midfield player with boundless energy. He started his
career with Crewe Alexandra and went on to play several league games for Wigan
Athletic.

Abrahams
A left sided front player who is a recent arrival (October 1999) at Park Lane.
Previously scored several first team goals for Colchester United and has also
had a spell with Kettering Town
Liam
Bright
Son of reserve team coach Micky Bright, from our reserve side, now making
appearances for the senior team - Transferred to Witham Town Feb '00,
then to Tilbury, Now back at Canvey.
Neil
Gregory
Signed from Colchester United. 27 year old Zambian born striker. Previous clubs
include Ipswich Town. After a two month loan period Neil, signed for Canvey on
Fri 4th February 2000, on a 3 1/2 year contract.
Andy
Jones (Jonah)
29-year old striker and the longest serving player at the club. Andy has
been at Park Lane since 1992, finishing as the club's top scorer in most
of them. His 200+ Canvey goals have played a major part in the club's
rise from the Essex Senior League to today's position in the promotion
race into Ryman Premier League. Before joining Canvey he played for
Basildon United, Purfleet, Rainham and Billericay Town.

Steve
Parmenter
22-year old striker signed in November 98 from Kingstonian. Born in
Chelmsford, Steve was a trainee with QPR before spending two years with
Bristol Rovers. He made 18 Football League appearances for Rovers and
spent the second half of last season with Conference League Yeovil Town.
He joined Kingstonian last season on a free transfer.

Glenn
Pennyfather
Aged 36, this is Glenn's sixth season at Canvey and his third as coach.
Well respected as a player, Glenn took over the coaching role last
season and has been heavily involved in the club's recent success. As a
player, Glenn career took him to Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Bristol
City and then Southend United.

And finally, the Boss…
Jeff King
A former Canvey Island player, Jeff became assistant manager in the
1991/92 season, stepping up to the manager's job a year later. Aged
40 his term as manager has seen the club's meteoric rise from
Essex Senior League to Ryman League Division One, an impressive three
levels. Jeff is a charismatic leader whose commitment to the club makes
him very popular and respected.

Barry
Strong, left sided player signed last season from Billericay Town. Aged 22, Mark
was on the books of Norwich City before spending time as a trainee with
Cambridge United. He joined Billericay on loan in February 1995, making the move
there permanent later that year. - Transferred to Purfleet in Sept '99 (loan
now permanent), Now Great Wakering Rovers (March '01)

Bartley
Signing from Carshalton in Sept
1999. Carl stands over 6' tall and impressed Park Lane fans when he came
on for the last 15 minutes of the Chesham game. He scored a cracking
debut goal.

Highly experienced goalkeeper, who rejoined the club last season from
Farnborough Town. England Under 21 International, holding record number of caps.
previous clubs include include Millwall, Middlesborough, Sunderland, Portsmouth,
Hartlepool and Dover Athletic. Now Manager of Bowers United.

Lindsey
Strong fit and energetic midfield player, who never gives less than 110%. Scorer
of last years 'Goal of the Season'. Previous clubs include Gillingham, Leyton
Orient and Dover. Transferred to

Recent signing after spells at
Spurs, Peterborough and Barnet. Strong and quick right sided player. Transferred
to Enfield Dec '99

Moore
Tall central defender who signed at the start of the season from Billericay
Town. Born in Melbourne, Australia, his other previous clubs include Chelmsford
City, Heybridge Swifts, Dagenham & Redbridge and Bishops Stortford. Transferred
to Billericay in Dec '99
Marvin
Neufville
Signed from Dagenham & Redbridge in November 1999. Transferred to
Braintree Town Dec '99
Chris
Payne
29-year old midfielder signed in 1998/9 from Ryman League Premier side
Billericay Town. Chris has enjoyed a lengthy Ryman League career with Harlow
Town, Dagenham & Redbridge and Heybridge Swifts. Before that he played in
the Essex Senior League for Brentwood Town.
Transferred to Heybridge Swifts March 2000

Waters
Signing from Billericay Town, where he broke his ankle last Christmas. Very
dependable defender. previously with West Ham United. Transferred to
Heybridge Swifts in Oct '99.
Other Canvey Players
Trevor
Paul transferred to Romford at the start of the season and did not
appear for Canvey this season. Simon Liddle
transferred to Corinthian Casuals in Sept. '99, and did not appear for Canvey
